Let it continue
We got back from Centro America about a month ago. Of course we needed to rest for a whole month, so we didn't do much. We have been sleeping a lot.
After much rest, we traveled to the Midwest. Chicago was the first stop, one of Greg's friends was getting married so we attended the ceremony. My good friend Jessica (Freshman year RA, and roommate after freshman year) lives in Evanston, a suburb of Chicago, located on the North side.
We left on Thursday Aug 25th, made it to CHI by 9:30pm, waited for bags and off we went. Greg dropped me off in Oak Park where Jess was waiting for me. Greg was on his way to the bachelor party in Napperville. It was a good night of sleep until my phone rang at 1:42am. I barely understood what Greg was saying, but something about staying at his friends place? or coming back? Well another call came in at 2:45am, got up and went to get him outside the house.
Friday:
The plan was to get up somewhat early and tour Chicago but it wasn't so early when we got to downtown, no one wanted to get up early. Chicago is an awesome city, we both loved it, despite walking about 12 miles. Yes I mapped it.
Highlights:
-Tour of the Chicago downtown Humane Society (given by Jessica)
- Millennium Park, the bean and hot-dogs. Greg put ketchup on his...
- Willis tower (Sears tower)
- Walking along the the lake shore all the way to the Navy Pier.
- Navy Pier. Speed walking all the way to the end of the pier, Greg made me do this, I'm not lying.
- Walking all the way back to the Humane Society.
After all these things, we made it back to the house in Evanston and went to get dinner at Giordanos (sp?) with Jess and Cory.
Saturday:
Wedding time. rushed to get there, made it to Morton Arboretum. Weather was perfect. John and Stephanie Tang got married. Small wedding. Left when the reception had just started, so I skipped lunch that day (unless you count the sour patches I ate on the way to St. Joseph).
Jess and I met up at the arboretum, 3 hrs later we were in St. Joseph with the best girls ever! Really. I had a ton of fun, I hadn't seen my friends since my wedding and we were over due for a get together. Every time I see them, I go back to the old college days, the good times. The days, I played pranks on them, had EXTRA long conversations til 2 am, long car rides, weddings, boyfriends, movies, pizza. Everything, you name it. The good old days with them are gone, since I live so far away. It was indeed a great time, we walked around the cute little downtown and then by the beach. It was a very cold day, Rachel was 7 months pregnant and she looked really cute. We walked back to the house and got in the hot tub, where we talked til 11pm. We meant that to be 10! but oops lost track of time. The margaritas may have been strong... or the conversations and the friendships were just too good. Then it hit me, I had a husband waiting for me to pick him up back in Chicago. Jess drove back and I took over once we got to Napperville. Then up to Evanston. Got home at 2 am.
Sunday:
5:00am couldn't get there earlier. The alarm was sounded like a war in my head. Greg and I drove up to GR (3 hrs), we wanted to see my brother, Melissa, Greg's uncle and his cousins. Also I still needed to see my cute little boys that I wish I could see every day, Zach, Connor and Levi. Went to Wolfgangs for an AWESOME breakfast, then saw Megan Odegaard and went for a ride with her around Reed's lake. Walked around downtown GR with Greg and drove to Hudsonville to see the rest of the girls and their babies.
I fell in love with the boys, wanted to bring them to TX but I couldn't, they wouldn't let me. We spent some great time, chatted and watched Connor make funny faces, while Zach was playing with his new car and Levi being held by Amanda. Agh, how I miss them. I'm pretty sure more than half of my heart belongs to GR and the friendships there.
Well a 3hr back to Chicago, and straight to the airport. Flew back home after being delayed, which put us back home at 1:15am.

Panama
Panama... the great powerful country. After a 16 hr bus ride we were in Panama. It
was a bit crazy, the bus broke down overnight so we had to wait for a new bus
at 2am somewhere in Costa Rica. Let’s
skip to when we finally arrived in Panama.
My former El Salvador neighbor met us at the bus station, with her 3
kids. The two boys were screaming, and
making a berrinche. Ok let’s skip this
as well, not a pleasant moment. Rode in
the car with her, Greg rode in the front. I had originally told Greg that we
were going to stay with her and her kids, I could see Greg’s head exploding by
the look on his eyes while in the car.
The kids were making a lot of noise.
Well I had a surprise, we were staying at the trump hotel downtown
Panama. Really. Patricia pointed to the
hotel and said, look that’s your hotel out there, then Greg’s face lit up,
literally! He was so exited to hear the word hotel. He didn’t know which hotel yet. We walked into the lobby and it just sounded
like bells to my ears! It was fantastic, they even gave us a complimentary
breakfast, it was everything I had envisioned.
Here we are, two people that haven’t showered in 2 days
(since we were rafting through the jungles of Costa Rica) and have two heavy
backpacks on their backs. Standing in
the magnificent lobby of the trump hotel, anyone could have thought that we
were at the wrong place. It was our
first year anniversary, we had made it to the trump tower. Got to our room and it was impressive, it was
just awesome, the bed was so comfy, the shower was in the middle of the room,
only had glass around it, a balcony that looked over the city and the
ocean. It was LIFE.
We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant, it was
delicious. I still want to go back to
the trump hotel just so I can eat there again.
We swam in the pool the next morning and we just really enjoyed
everything about it we didn’t want to leave. Patricia picked us up to take us to “Casco
Viejo” an old part of the city. Then she
took us to the Panama canal where we went into the museum and saw the boats go
through. We really enjoyed it there we
learned so much about the Panama canal.
It was definitely a very long day, we got dropped off at the airport at around 7pm and our flight was at 3am which was delayed til 4am. Arrived in FT Lauderle, to board again to make it to Dallas, then board again to make it to Houston. Finally arrived in Houston and collapsed to the rest of the day.

The Central America tour is yet just another chapter of our
